Last Year's Columbia Cup Winner Tests Out New Engine

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.- Water Follies is well underway and your NBC Right Now team has all access coverage for you this weekend. Today we spoke with last year's Lamb Weston Columbia Cup winner Jimmy Shane.

"Today we threw a different motor in the boat than what we tested with yesterday so we have to get some data and numbers off of the engine and see how it performs compared to how we were running yesterday," explained Shane. "We're looking to improve on some of the speed and some of the issues we had yesterday and try to get up there back at the front of the pack."

As far as improvements go, Shane told us while most changes are usually in the gearbox combinations, his team is focusing on the engine.

"We think we have a stronger motor that's sitting in the truck. It's fresh and ready to go so we got it in the boat last night and got it fired up. Hopefully we pick up a couple more horse power by doing that."

As last year's winner Shane gets a little bit of an advantage. He gets the privilege of sitting under the shade of Bernie's tree with the rest of his team.
