Hermiston Car Thief Captured after High Speed Pursuit

HERMISTON, Ore. - A 23-year-old Hermiston man is in custody after officers arrested him for stealing a car from the 900 block of E. Main Street early Friday morning.

According to the Hermiston Police Department, Jeremiah Ayers of 150 NE 8th Place, stole a car at 6:55 a.m. and led officers on high speed chase near the 100 clock of NE 8th Place.  When officers tried to pull him over for speeding, he led them on a three block chase and then fled on foot.  He was arrested a short time after.

Ayers was charged with Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle, Attempt to Elude on Foot, 2nd Degree Theft, and numerous driving infractions including Careless Driving and Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.

Ayers has been arrested eight times in Oregon with 37 charges on his record.  He's currently booked at the Umatilla County Jail in Pendleton.
