Summer Storm Brings Wash. Lightning, Showers

Posted: Updated:

SEATTLE (AP) - A summer storm rolled through much of Western Washington late Wednesday, bringing thunder, lightning and a smattering of rain.

The National Weather Service says about a half inch of rain fell around Mount Rainier. However, no rain was recorded at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, where that's been the story for the entire month of July.

KING-TV reports (http://is.gd/6y8rbF ) that a tree fell near North Bend, striking a woman on her porch. A police spokesperson says she may have a broken hip. Dispatchers also said lightning struck a home in Sammamish, east of Seattle, but no one was hurt.

Weather Service meteorologist Josh Smith in Seattle said lightning was reported from Packwood all the way through northwest Washington.

The Weather Service office in Spokane says a red flag warning remains in effect until Thursday night for possible lightning in the northern Columbia Basin, the Okanogan and Methow valleys and large areas of Eastern Washington's central Cascade Mountains.
