KENNEWICK, Wash. - A Pasco man is in custody after stealing a car and attempting to flee from police Wednesday evening.

Kennewick police say Daniel C. Penselin, 30, stole a car from the Toyota Center parking lot, after spotting a set of keys that were left in the car.

When police spotted Penselin, he led them a short chase, before sliding into some wood chips bordering a yard near 15th and Cedar Street in Kennewick.

Police chased the suspect on foot, and took him into custody after he tried to hide under a trailer.

Penselin told police, in a verbal statement, that he had just been released from the Benton County Jail, and he walked across the street to the Toyota Center, and stole the car so he didn't have to walk. Police also found methamphetamine on Penselin.

He was booked into Benton County Jail for Auto Theft, Felony Eluding and Possession of Controlled Substance/Meth.
