Davis hits 40th HR as Orioles beat Mariners

Updated:

Former Spokane Indians slugger Chris Davis hit his major league-leading 40th home run and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Seattle Mariners 11-8 on Friday.

Davis' blast reached Eutaw Street beyond the right field wall, but it was Nate McLouth's blast that made a bigger noise. McLouth's grand slam in the sixth gave the Orioles an 11-6 lead and all the scoring they would need.

Kendrys Morales and Michael Morse closed the gap with a pair of solo shots in the eighth.

Former Seattle farmhand Chris Tillman (14-3) got the win, despite allowing six runs on eight hits and three walks. Jim Johnson closed the game out in the ninth for his 38th save of the season.

Michael Saunders and Humberto Quintero also hit home runs for the Mariners, but it wasn't enough to dig Aaron Harang out of a bad start. The veteran right-hander gave up seven hits on seven runs in just five innings.
