Suspicious Backpack in Selah Turns Out Harmless

Posted: Updated:

SELAH, Wash. - Selah Police say a suspicious backpack that lead to a neighborhood evacuation turned out to be harmless.

Police say someone reported the bag in the parking lot of Save-on-Foods at North Wenas Road and Goodlander around 10 PM on Sunday.

Officers evacuated the area while the Selah Fire Department and Washington State Bomb Squad responded and detonated the backpack.

Police say after it was destroyed, they learned the bag contained tortilla chips, a soda can, and other items that weren't related to bomb-making materials.

Officers don't know who the backpack belonged to.
