Local Police Department's Hosting Crime & Drug Prevention Events

Posted: Updated:

NBCRightNow.com - Tuesday night is National Night Out, a community crime and drug prevention event.

Almost all local cities in the region are participating this year, including the city of West Richland. The city has not participated in a similar event in almost a decade.

West Richland police says they hope it will strengthen their connection with the people in the city.

"I think it's important for the citizens to realize that the police department's here to help them and the more information that they can provide us to help to keep the community safe, the better. So stay involved, report crime when you see it and if you have a question just ask us, we're here to help," said West Richland Police Chief Brian McElroy.

Nationally nearly 16,000 communities will host night's out Tuesday night.
