Yakima Voters Decide Whether or Not to Approve Annual Road Repair Fund

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, Wash.--There's only one proposition on the City of Yakima's 2013 Primary Election Ballot.

Voters will decide whether to approve a dedicated street overlay and reconstruction fund.

The city said this will guarantee at least $2 million a year will be spent on road repairs. The money will come out of the general fund.

"It doesn't add any taxes, it doesn't create a new revenue stream," said Randy Beehler, the city's Community Relations Manager. "It uses existing revenue stream but dedicates a portion of it year after year after year going forward."

The city said last year's citizen survey results highlighted a need to make significant investments to improve city roads.
