Yakima County Needs Volunteers For Voters Guide Arguments

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima County needs volunteers to write arguments against two measures for the online voters guide.

The county selects committees to write arguments both for and against each measure on the ballot.

Right now, the county needs a committee opposing a change to the Yakima City Code that would require a two-thirds majority vote from the city council to raise taxes.

The other committee would write an argument against a levy for the Naches Parks and Recreation District.

"There's always a group that's eager to step forward in favor of a proposition, it's a little more difficult to find committees to serve on the opposing side," said Yakima County Elections Manager Kathy Fisher.

If you're interested in applying, you'll need to contact the Yakima County Elections Center in person or over the phone by this Friday.

They're located in the county courthouse.

WASHINGTON: It's barely pumpkin latte season and already signs are up advertising *flu* shots! One vaccine that's been off the market for a couple years is back this year. Two years ago the nasal spray vaccine was taken off the market because the Center for Disease Control said it was no longer effective for that particular flu season. For those who tend to get a little needle frantic, the CDC now says this year's nasal spray vaccine should be effective for this year's flu strain. I...More >>
