Yakima Voters Say Yes to Dedicated Road Fund

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.--The only proposition on Yakima's Primary Election Ballot was approved by a landslide.

Almost 73 percent of Yakima voters checked yes for creating a dedicated street overlay and reconstruction fund. Each year, the city will now allocate at least $2 million from the general fund strictly for road work.

The city said this doesn't create any new taxes. It just uses existing revenue to fix cracks, potholes and ruts.

Many people said they see issues with our streets every day, and they're excited to see more emphasis on repairs.

"Potholes are the main problem," said Jim, a Yakima resident.

"I think they need to focus on the roads that need more repair first before they upgrade other ones, but if that's the plan, I'm all for it," said Tammy Danforth.

This year's citizen survey results also showed people's dissatisfaction with street repairs. Only 19 percent of the people surveyed said Yakima roads were excellent or good.

WASHINGTON: It's barely pumpkin latte season and already signs are up advertising *flu* shots! One vaccine that's been off the market for a couple years is back this year. Two years ago the nasal spray vaccine was taken off the market because the Center for Disease Control said it was no longer effective for that particular flu season. For those who tend to get a little needle frantic, the CDC now says this year's nasal spray vaccine should be effective for this year's flu strain. I...More >>
