DUI Crackdowns Headed for Benton & Franklin Counties

Posted: Updated:

BENTON & FRANKLIN COUNTIES, Wash. - The annual 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign' begins next Friday, August 16 in Benton and Franklin counties.

The Washington Traffic Safety Commission says DUI's are the leading cause of death on state roadways, accounting for nearly half of the 439 fatalities on the road during 2012.

Starting August 16th thru September 2nd, extra officers will be looking for drivers under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, or other drugs. Despite Washington legalizing marijuana for adults 21 and older, police say it is still illegal and dangerous to drive under the influence of marijuana.

Last year, during the same time period, officers arrested 70 people for DUI. Nearly 1500 people were charged with DUI in Benton and Franklin counties for all of 2012.
