Yakima Firefighter Injured in Overnight House Fire

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- A Yakima firefighter is out of the hospital after he was injured at a fire on the five thousand block of scenic drive last night.

Crews got the call around 10:30, and found heavy flames in the home when they arrived.

Firefighters had a hard time controlling the blaze with normal hoses, and had to call in an aerial ladder truck with a much more powerful nozzle to put out the flames.

"The fire came in late last night and it was a very stubborn fire, by the time the first arriving crew got there, the attic space was completely involved," said Fire Captain Tom Schneider.

A firefighter was injured during the mop up when a sheet rock wall fell over and hit him in the head.

He was treated and released from the hospital this morning.

Crews are still investigating the cause.
