Fireworks Cause House Fire in Yakima

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. - Investigators say fireworks are to blame for a house fire Wednesday along the 5000 block of Scenic Drive.

Yakima firefighters want to remind residents not to use fireworks in neighborhoods and to report any fireworks use immediately.

YAKIMA, Wash. - A Yakima firefighter is out of the hospital after he was injured at a fire on the five thousand block of scenic drive Wednesday night.

Crews got the call around 10:30, and found heavy flames in the home when they arrived.

Firefighters had a hard time controlling the blaze with normal hoses, and had to call in an aerial ladder truck with a much more powerful nozzle to put out the flames.

"The fire came in late last night and it was a very stubborn fire, by the time the first arriving crew got there, the attic space was completely involved," said Fire Captain Tom Schneider.

A firefighter was injured during the mop up when a sheet rock wall fell over and hit him in the head.

He was treated and released from the hospital Wednesday morning.
