Red Flag Warning Issued for Potential Lightning Storms

Posted: Updated:
KITTITAS, Wash.--Firefighters battling the Colockum Tarps Fire are bracing themselves for unfavorable weather conditions over the weekend.

Crews said these next couple of days are going to be extremely dry.

Lightning strikes are also expected in fire areas Friday night, which is why the National Weather Service has issued another red flag warning.

"We all realize how powerful nature is, and we try to adjust our strategies and tactics to work within that," said Peter Frenzen, a Fire Information Officer. "We take the hand we're dealt. We work on the fire and assess it everyday."

The Colockum Tarps Fire is about 75 percent contained. Crews said the fire grew to nearly 81,000 acres, but they don't expect the acreage to change much because they've established a good perimeter around the fire.
