KENNEWICK, Wash.- Parents, educators and care takers of people with autism are gathering in Kennewick this week to learn about some helpful tools and skills they can use in their everyday life at the 9th Annual Southeastern Washington Autism Conference.

"I've always wanted to make my son's life as easy as possible for him because its challenging for him," said Jessika Frost

Jessika Frost has been attending the Southeastern Washington Autism Conference for several years and said it has really made an impact for her and her 18 year-old son with autism.

"The first time he went, I saw that sparkle in his eye like, 'hey I'm not alone,'" added Frost

The conference is aimed toward providing resources for those who directly work with people with autism.

It's a two day conference at the Three Rivers Convention center in Kennewick.

"Well there's always a great need to have more tools when dealing with autism and autism spectrum disorders and this year the social stories really are helping people be able to deal with the social aspect of autism," said Karen Hayes, Kadlec Neurological Resource Center Executive Director.

"There are things that we can do from our side of the social equation that can make their lives more comfortable, safer and more productive," said Carol Gray, Keynote Speaker.

This year's conference is geared toward helping people with autism work through social interactions more effectively on a daily basis.

"It puts us as caregivers or people working with children with autism or adults with autism puts us in their shoes in helping us see through their eyes," said Frost.

About 200 people attended the conference this year.. Most from the West coast but also as far as Massachusetts. The conference goes through Wednesday.
