Washington Jobless Rate Up, but Job Market Improves
OLYMPIA, Wash. The
state's job market continues to grow despite a slight increase in unemployment
The Employment Security
Department reports the unemployment rate for July was 6.9 percent, up from 6.8
percent the prior two months, but the state added an estimated 8,800 jobs in
July, and state economists revised June's job growth of 9,800 up to 10,700
Industries showing the
biggest job gains last month are education and health services, professional
and business services, and leisure and hospitality. Areas which experienced job
losses are wholesale trade, government and construction.
ESD says more than 239,000 people were unemployed and looking for work
last month, including 108,214 who claimed unemployment benefits during that
same time period.
