WA Grape Growers Meet For Field Day

Posted: Updated:

PROSSER, Wash.- Friday in Prosser was the statewide Viticulture Field Day. Both wine grape and juice grape growers learned some new techniques that will help them continue to make that famous Washington wine.

Growers were accompanied out to vineyards in Prosser by researchers at the WSU Irrigated Agriculture Research Center (IAREC). While networking in groups, they shared innovative watering and soil treatment techniques. The group then visited Zirkle Wine Company to tour their new crush facility.

"Well I think what they're getting out of it is just management of their own...growers that are either managing their own farms or if they're working for farmers...to know just to be informed on what they're doing," said Art Denhole, the president of the Washington State Grape Society.

The event is hosted almost every year and the society opens up the invitations to anyone who is interested in grape growing.
