WENATCHEE, Wash. - A Transportation Department spokesman says if you plan on traveling this weekend, don't plan on crossing the Cascades on Highway 20.
The North Cascades Highway remains closed by mudslides that covered it in places last weekend near Rainy Pass.
Transportation Department spokesman Jeff Adamson in Wenatchee says crews have been working with heavy equipment, but they can't say for sure when the highway will reopen because of the chance of more rain and mudslides.
A 10-mile stretch of the highway is closed on the west side of Rainy Pass.
Intense rain from a thunderstorm the night of August 10 covered the roadway in eight places with mud, rocks and trees. The biggest slide was about a quarter-mile long and 25 feet deep.
