UPDATE: Spokane Pilot Killed In Idaho Plane Crash Identified

CATALDO, Idaho -

UPDATE: The pilot who died in the North Idaho plane crash west of Cataldo has been identified as John T. Lippis, 67, of Spokane.

UPDATE: Michael Donaldson with the FAA says that the plane was a home-built 2 seater. It was built in 1980.

UPDATE: The pilot killed is from Spokane. He has yet to be identified. We're told that the pilot has a hangar in Spokane and in Shoshone County. We'll post more details as we get them.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE KOOTENAI COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE: On August 18, 2013 at approx. 7:30 PM, deputies from the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office along with members of the Idaho State Police, personnel from Shoshone County EMS and Rose Lake QRU responded to the area of Beaver Rd. and Tamarack Ridge Rd. for the report of a plane crash.   

At approx. 1050 PM, with the assistance of the Spokane County Sheriff's Office's Air One Unit the crash scene was located near the residence at 13778 S. Beaver Rd. The pilot and single occupant were found deceased in the wreckage of the air craft. 

The identity of the pilot is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.    Representatives from the NTSB and FAA were notified of the crash and will be conducting an investigation to determine the cause. 

UPDATE: The Kootenai County sheriff's office says the pilot of a small plane was killed in a crash Sunday night near Cataldo. A caller reported seeing the plane go down before 8 p.m. and later saw smoke.    

Searchers looked for more than three hours before they found the wreckage. The dead pilot was the only person on board.

The Idaho State Police confirm to KHQ crews are on the ground looking for a possible plane crash near Cataldo, Idaho. 

The call came in around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, and now crews from the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, Shoshone County Sheriff's Office and ISP are all on the ground looking for the wreckage.  As of the last report, they hadn't yet found it. 

There's no word yet what kind of plane they're looking for, how many people may be aboard, or where exactly the search area is, although early reports indicate it may be near the Tamarack Ridge area. Stay with KHQ for the very latest information as it develops.

    PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) - A Salvation Army thrift store in New Hampshire has received an urn apparently filled with cremated remains. The Portsmouth Herald reports the urn was donated last week. It's bronze in color and is engraved "Richard L. Pettengill 1929-1981." The store is holding onto the urn in an effort to return it to the deceased's relatives.
