Cork's Pharmacy Closes after Almost 50 Years

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.- A pharmacy that has been around for almost 50 years closed its doors for good Tuesday.

Cork's Pharmacy first opened in 1964. It has been serving customers across the street from Kennewick General Hospital since then, but today that all came to an end.

The store's closing is due to the declining health of store owner David Alme, he took over the store from its founder Robert Simmelink who left the business to Alme once he retired.Today

Employees and Customers said they are sad to see the long time establishment close.

"It's a bittersweet day, we're closing because of health issues from the owner so that makes us all very sad, he's been very generous and giving to us," said Amy Almaraz, Pharmacy Employee.

"Unfortunately we're losing something really good because not all pharmacies reach out that extra mile for you," said Angela Villa Senor.

Customers said what sets Cork's apart from chain pharmacies is their attention to customer service.

The employees said, working there has been like working with family.

Current Cork's customers will be transferred to Walgreens pharmacies. Cork's will also be donating some old Kennewick photos and artifacts to the East Benton County Historical Museum.
