Judge Dismisses Charges Against Man Who Taped Police Raid

Posted: Updated:

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. - A judge has dismissed charges against a man from Sunnyside who was arrested after he filmed a police raid.

Sunnyside Municipal Court Judge Steven Michels dismissed the obstruction charge against Thomas Warren at the request of both police and prosecutors.

Warren videotaped a police raid earlier this month, showing Sunnyside Sgt. Oli Hernandez threatening to arrest him if he didn't stop filming. Hernandez later issued him a citation for obstruction, saying Warren crossed a secured perimeter.

Sunnyside Deputy Police Chief Phil Schenck says he has scheduled a refresher training course on constitutional law and search and seizure for his whole department with a Yakima County prosecutor.

Warren says he expected the charge to be dismissed, but he says he may still sue the department.
