Got Weeds? Take Them to the Fair

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Do you have a mysterious weed in your backyard and don't know how to get rid off it?

Pull it and take it to the Benton Franklin County Fair. The Franklin County Noxious Weed Control Board will tell you what kind of weed it is and the best way to kill it, or at least control it.

Robin Kusske at the control board says the top menace in our region is Puncture Vine, also known as tackweed or goatheads. "Our favorite weed to complain about because it causes so much problems," Kusske says. "Rush Skeletonweed, Yellow Starthistle, Kosha. There's a whole plethora of noxious weeds we work with."

Kusske says one thorn from a puncture weed can produce enough seeds for five thousand new plants.

The weed control board has several illustrated pamphlets at the fair that will show you the various weeds in our region and explain how you can get them under control.
