Mitch Holmberg recorded a hat-trick as Team Red defeated Team White 4-2 at the Chiefs Annual Red-White Scrimmage on Sunday afternoon.  2,972 fans were on hand to watch the game, marking the culmination of the Chiefs Annual Fall Camp.

The game started as a defensive battle, with few offensive chances through the first ten minutes of play. That pattern ended quickly at the tail end of the 1st, as the 20-year-old Holmberg found the net to open the scoring and put Team White up 1-0 with 9:30 remaining. He was assisted on the play by 2013 CHL Import Draft First Round selection Adam Hascic of Slovakia.

Holmberg and Hascic hooked up again at the 15:23 mark of the 1st period, with Holmberg flipping a rebound over Team Red goaltender Eric Williams' glove. Fellow 20-year-old Mike Aviani also assisted on the play.

Team Red got on the board at the 5:27 mark of the 2nd Period as Spokane native and 2013 WHL Bantam Draft selection Kailer Yamamoto beat Team White goaltender Garret Hughson to make it a 3-1 game. He was assisted on the play by his older brother, Keanu.

Nicholas Labossiere, a 5th round pick during this spring's Bantam Draft, punched in a rebound to put White up 3-1. Aviani and Michael Doneff assisted on the goal.

Holmberg completed his hat trick on an empty net with 1:58 remaining to make it 4-1. With just two seconds remaining in regulation, Curtis Miske sniped one in, assisted by Josh Giacomin, to reach the final score of 4-2.

Williams stopped 19 shots in 32:09 of play while Tyson Verhelst came in and made 22 stops in 27:51 for Team Red. Hughson made 14 saves and Trevor Martin, 14, for Team White.

The Chiefs will travel to Everett for three games in three days next week for their first pre-season action of the year. Spokane will play Portland on Friday night, Everett on Saturday and Seattle, Sunday.
