Unions to Hold Labor Day Picnic in Columbia Park

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash.- Labor union leaders in the Tri-Cities say they expect more than 1,000 people will attend a Labor Day picnic in Columbia Park, and you don't have to be a union card holder to attend.

Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 598 and other local unions have chipped in to host the free picnic. Volunteers will man the barbecues while live music plays on Columbia Park's main stage.

Pete Nicacio, business manager of local 598, says the picnic will bring together union members from all professions to celebrate the American worker.

"Food workers, nurses, the firefighters, construction workers, the 15 building trades, the plumbers and steamfitters, it will bring together a diverse group of people," Nicacio says.

There will be a bouncy house for the kids, and for grownups, a show and shine motorcycle and car show.

Food will be served between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and the first 300 people get a free tee-shirt.

KENNEWICK: Good news for all of you bargain shoppers out there, Goodwill is opening a brand new store in Kennewick sometime next year. Thanks to a 3.1 million dollar loan and lots of planning, a very large patch of dirt will be home to a 20,000 square foot Goodwill; half warehouse and processing, half retail. The Kennewick store will be closing, however. You can still say, out with your old couches, TV's and clothing, and *into someone else's hands, just at a different location. ...More >>
