President Obama Honors Spokane Soldier with Medal of Honor

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON D.C. - President Obama is honoring a soldier from Spokane with a medal of honor at the White House.

Monday, the president honored Army Staff Sergeant Ty Carter for his "conspicuous gallantry" while serving in Afghanistan in 2009.

Army leaders say Carter spent six hours dodging enemy fire, running ammunition to fighting positions, providing first aid, killing enemy troops, and risking his life to save an injured soldier pinned down by enemy fire when more than 300 enemy fighters tried to overrun his outpost early one morning.
