Medstar Landing Site Training at Hammer in Richland
RICHLAND, Wash. - Local firefighters got some important training today, learning how to set up a landing area for a Medstar helicopter.
Medstar crews fly to accident scenes when victims need critical care and transportation to a hospital right away.
Today, crews from the Hanford Fire Department worked with a Medstar helicopter at the Hammer Training Facility in Richland.
Lieutenant Anthony Lovato said, "The training helps close that gap between them, to shorten the patient's time out in the field. Get a little bit better grip on patient care, what they expect, what we expect, and what we can do to help them get (the helicopter) in the air faster."
Beside setting up a landing zone, the firefighters also practiced communicating with the pilot and loading patients into the helicopter.
