Murder Suspect's Family Happy The Search Is Over

Posted: Updated:

Early Monday morning the second suspect, 16-year-old Kenan Adams-Kinard, wanted in connection with the beating death of 88-year-old Delbert Belton, was taken into custody.

Kenan's Uncle and Father say they are both happy the search for him is over and that he was taken into custody safely. The Kinard family had asked anyone who knew of Kenan's whereabouts to call them, so the family could turn him in. Early Monday morning, that is exactly what happened.

"We got the call at three o'clock this morning," Kenan's Uncle said.

The family says an anonymous caller told them where Kenan was hiding, so they called Spokane Police to turn him in.

"We went to him, the officer went with us, and he took care of that," Kenan's Uncle said.

Knowing that Kenan is safely in custody, the Kinard family can now breathe a sigh of relief.

"A lot of people don't realize, who haven't been in a situation like this, but this was a blessing to the whole family, especially to me as a father knowing that my son was captured without being harmed," Kenan's Father said.

However, while the search for Kenan is over, there are still a lot of questions his father and uncle need answered.

"We hear a lot of stories, but the bottom line is, we have to hear his story," Kenan's Uncle said.

Kenan's family says there are many troubled teenagers in Spokane and situations like this will keep happening if we do not step in to help.

"What we need to do is all come together, pray for the victims family, pray for the kids, and wish this situation would never happen again because this could have happened to anyone," Kenan's Uncle said.

Kenan Adams-Kinard is expected to make his first appearance in court Tuesday afternoon. He is charged with first degree murder and first degree robbery. He will be tried as an adult. The Kinard family still cannot believe Kenan is involved in this tragedy.

"Kenan is a very good kid," Kenan's Father said. "I'm proud of him and I'm not giving up on him no matter what. They can't tell me my son is a killer and I know he's not."
