Catch a Ride to School with Walla Walla Firefighters

Posted: Updated:

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Walla Walla Professional Firefighters Union Local 404 is giving a few lucky students a chance to start school in style.

Firefighters are holding a contest to give four children a ride to school during their first week back, September 1st through 4th.

Tuesday through Friday, firefighters will pick up a different student each day in the department's restored 1961 American Lafrance Pumper.

"We just thought, hey this would be a lot of fun for some kid," said Chris Macdonald, a firefighter and paramedic for the City of Walla Walla Fire Department. "We should share this truck with the community and hopefully make some kid's first day of school really great. What better way to arrive than in a firetruck?"

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade at most of the Walla Walla Public Schools are eligible for the contest.

To enter, parents can "like" the Walla Walla Professional Firefighters Facebook page, then share and comment on the status about the contest.

Firefighters say they'll pick the winners on Sunday, August 29th.
