FIRST ON KHQ.COM: Body Found Near Minnehaha Park Identified

UPDATE: The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the body found near Minnehaha Park as 35-year-old Traivon C. Asterino. The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest. It's not clear at this hour if a suspect is at large. We'll post more details as we get them.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE VALLEY POLICE DEPT. AND THE SPOKANE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE: On August 28th, 2013, at about 5:30 a.m., a citizen was walking past the area of 4414 E. Buckeye when he located a deceased male on the side of the roadway. Spokane County Major Crimes detectives and forensics personnel responded to the scene to investigate.

At this time, the investigation is in the early stage and no other information is available.  Detectives are asking citizens if they saw anything suspicious in this area this morning or last night to provide that information to Crime Check at 509-456-2233. 

Once detectives are finished processing the scene, the body will be released to the Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office. The Medical Examiner's Office will release the identity of the victim and cause of death at a later time.

KHQ.COM - A walker found a male body in the area of Havana & Buckeye just south of Minnehaha Park on Wednesday morning. Detectives are investigating this as a homicide.     ANKARA, Turkey - Turkish media reports say five people - three of them children - were electrocuted at a water park pool in northwest Turkey and have died. The private Dogan news agency reported Friday that the three children were caught up in an electrical current in the pool at the park in the town of Akyazi, in Sakarya province. The park's manager and his son dived into the pool to try and save them.
