Pendleton Police Learn Real Name of Assault and Murder Suspect

PENDLETON, Ore. - Pendleton Police say they've now learned the real name of the man arrested in connection with two violent crimes.

Police say the 23-year-old transient known as "Danny Wu" is actually named Lukah Pobzeb Chang.

After a month long man hunt, officers arrested Chang at the Pendleton Convention Center Wednesday night. Police searched the building after employees spotted a man matching Chang's description and called 911. Officers say they found him hiding in the attic where he appeared to have been living.

Police say Chang brutally attacked 53-year old Karen Lange earlier this month. Investigators say DNA has also connected him to the stabbing death of 19-year-old AmyJane Brandhagen last year.

Officers say they've responded to over 100 sightings of Chang in the last two weeks, but the report on Wednesday at the convention center was the first successful tip.

According to the East Oregonian, Chang told officers Thursday night that he'd left Camp Pendleton, a Marines base in southern California and Pendleton Police Chief Stuart Roberts said Marine Corps authorities confirmed Chang had deserted.

Chief Roberts said Chang is from Morganton, N.C., had been in the Marine Corps four years, left California on a bus last year and ran out of money in Eastern Oregon, East Oregonian reported.
