Diamond Cup Hydros Return To Coeur d'Alene

Posted: Updated:
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -

The roar of high-powered engines will be ever-present at Lake Coeur d'Alene this Labor Day weekend, as The Diamond Cup and H1 Unlimited Hydroplane racing return to the north Idaho inland sea as the seventh stop on the H1 Hydroplane circuit.

According to diamondcuprace.com, the sanctioned race will be located along Coeur d'Alene's Lakeshore Drive in the Silver Beach area. The three-day event is expected to draw over 50,000 spectators.

Three types of boats will be on hand at The Diamond Cup: H1 Unlimited (unlimited), Grand Prix West Racing (1500 horsepower inboard big blocks), and Vintage (unlimited and limited 7 Litre Class).

It's been a while since The Diamond Cup was last held at Lake Coeur d'Alene -- 45 years, to be exact -- but hydroplanes have graced its glassy surface recently in smaller races with limited boats or demonstrations.

The two-mile track can withstand seven boats to run side-by-side, widest on the H1 Unlimited Circuit. Eight boats race in each heat.

Parents are encouraged to bring their young ones out to the event. The venue is expected to have "bouncy inflatables, games, face painting and more for younger children." The website adds that security is provided to ensure a safe environment.

Reviewing OOTP '15, Mariners Still Break Hearts in Baseball Video Game

This lengthy build-up leads me to one sincere question: Did the 2001 season doom the Seattle Mariners franchise? If the M's had won the World Series that year, would we be talking about a dynasty? Out of the Park Baseball 15 allows baseball fans to answer that question.
