Tutors Need for Kennewick School District Reading Program

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Organizers with Team Read, a program of The Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia, are looking for volunteers to help tutor elementary students in the Kennewick School District.

More than 300 students are enrolled in the program, but only 150 volunteers have signed up to help. As part of the program, first, second and third graders meet with a tutor twice a week for 30 minutes.

Organizers are also looking for business partners who will support their employees who wish to participate in the program.

"They bond with their tutors," said Lori Aronson, the Team Read program director. "At the end of the year, sometimes there are tears from both the student and the tutor because this is one person in their life that they can count on that will be there twice a week to support them," Aronson continued.

Training for the program starts in September and tutoring begins in October.
