Firefighters Help Fight Disease

Posted: Updated:

Kennewick, Wash.- Some Kennewick firefighters went to work Saturday, not battling fires, but battling a disease.

Fill The Boot is a nationwide effort to help fight muscular dystrophy. The firefighters were out all day on Clearwater Avenue collecting donations from drivers passing through stoplights. Saturday's goal was to raise about $9,000 and they think they reached it.

"It feels good to be able to collect money for a good cause," said Captain Rob Kandele of the Kennewick Fire Department. "It's been interesting and rewarding to see how generous people have been. People really have been generous today and we've raised quite a bit of money."

All of the funds that were collected today will stay local and help people suffering from muscular dystrophy in the Tri-Cities area.
