Kerry: US Has Evidence Sarin Gas Was Used In Syria

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP) - Secretary of State John Kerry is asserting the United States now has evidence of sarin gas use in Syria and says the "case is building" for a military attack.

A day after President Barack Obama stepped back from his threat to launch an attack, Kerry says in a series of interviews on the Sunday news shows that the administration learned of the sarin use through samples of hair and blood provided to Washington by first responders in Damascus.

Kerry also says confident that Congress will give Obama its backing for a military strike against Syria. But the former senator also says the president has authority to act on his own if Congress doesn't give its approval.

Congress is scheduled to return from a summer break on Sept. 9.

PARK CITY, Utah (AP) - Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she has experienced sexual harassment.    The 84-year-old told a crowd at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday that women her age are familiar with sexual harassment but didn't have a name for it.    When Ginsburg was a student at Cornell University in the 1950s, she says a professor gave her a practice test that was identical to the real test.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) - Shakil Afridi has languished in jail for years — since 2011, when the Pakistani doctor used a vaccination scam in an attempt to identify Osama bin Laden’s home, aiding U.S. Navy Seals who tracked and killed the al-Qaida leader. Americans might wonder how Pakistan could imprison a man who helped track down the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks.
