Local Wineries Experience Busy Labor Day Weekend

Posted: Updated:

NBCRightNow.com - The holiday weekend is coming to an end and was a very busy weekend for local wineries.

Wineries in Prosser and Benton City say they saw a significant increase in visitors over the weekend.

Kiona Vineyards and Winery say they saw more than 200 people on Saturday. They say they usually see smaller crowds on Sundays, but this holiday Sunday topped most others.

Kestrel Winery in Prosser says they also saw an increased number of visitors, with more than 200 people stopping by over the two days compared to about 70 to 80 people on a normal weekend.

Kiona's Hospitality Manager Jeri LeBlanc says she hasn't crunched the numbers yet but thinks this year's Labor Day wine sales and foot traffic was better than last year.

"It was a little bit crazy, we started off Friday with a big bang we had great picnic sales a lot of people from Seattle, people traveling," LeBlanc said.

Although the wineries may have seen unusually high numbers on Saturday and Sunday, Monday was a different story.

LeBlanc says Kiona usually sees less people on Labor Day itself compared to the weekend.

And although some wineries did see an increased amount of visitors, NBC Right Now spoke with Hogue Winery in Prosser who says they actually did not see an increase at all and it may have been slower than usual.
