PASCO, Wash. - The Pasco School District wants your help to name their three new STEM elementary schools. The schools are under construction and should open in 2014 and 2015.
But the school board plans to consider names for them by the end of this month. They want the community to be a part of the naming process so the schools reflect the people who use them.
"Built with community money that will educate our community's children so the community is what this is all about anyway. We want to make sure that the names reflect some of their input and choices for sure," said Deidre Holmberg with the Pasco School District.
The board is looking for names that reflect science and math concepts.
The following criteria will be used in the selection process:
The names shall be known to, and
significant to, the people of the Pasco School District
The names shall not conflict with the
names of other schools in our area
Names of living persons shall be
avoided unless circumstances warrant
In order for names of living persons to
be considered, the person or persons must: - Be a representative of Pasco's community - Have strong connections to the Pasco community - Have served as an inspiration to others - Have overcome obstacles to achieve success
To submit a suggestion, email STEMnames@PSD1.org or call 543-2159. All nominations are due by midnight on Monday, September 30th.
