Community Clean-Up Events Back This Fall in Yakima

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, Wash.-- After a successful spring, Yakima's community clean up events are back just in time for fall.
Last spring, the city along with the help of community volunteers, picked up and properly disposed of 52 tons of garbage and yard debris, 620 pounds of paper, 120 pounds of plastic, 600 pounds of cardboard and more than 1500 old tires. All that was accomplished during four Saturdays.
Some people said the community really struggles with graffiti and litter so setting aside days for community clean up really gives Yakima some spark.
"I really admire their efforts because this is just another opportunity for a lot of our community members to be involved within our community somehow," said Erica Rodarte.
Just like the spring cleanups, the fall events will rotate between each of Yakima's four city council districts.
The first clean up is on Saturday, September 14th and will target neighborhoods West of 40th avenue. The trash drop off site will be at 75th and Mead Avenue from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
