UPDATE: 2-Year-Old Ran Over by Semi-Truck, Killed in Wapato

WAPATO, Wash.-- We know the name of the young boy hit and killed by a semi truck in Wapato Wednesday night.
The Yakima County Coroner said 2-year-old Kaleb Contreras was hit on the 2500 Block of Progressive Road.
Yakima County Sheriff's Deputies said the little boy crawled under the semi, and when the driver started to pull forward he ran over the child.
Deputies said the driver is a family member.
Washington State Patrol is helping with the investigation.


WAPATO, Wash. -- A Wapato family is mourning after their 2-year-old son was hit and killed by a semi-truck.

The Yakima County Sheriff's Office were called to a home on the 2500 block of Progressive Road in Wapato Wednesday night around 6pm after getting a report of a semi-truck hitting a small boy.

Deputies say the driver of the semi was a family member.

Deputies also say it looks like the boy left the yard and crawled under the semi that was parked at the home.

When the driver got in the semi and pulled forward, he realized he hit something.

Paramedics took the boy to Toppenish Hospital where he died.

Washington State Patrol is assisting on the investigation.

Lower Valley Fire Units and the  Wapato Police Department also responded to the accident.
