Gesser Excited To Face Former Team

Posted: Updated:
LARAMIE, Wyo. -

When Idaho takes on Wyoming Saturday afternoon, the Vandals will see a familiar face on the opposing sideline – former offensive coordinator Jason Gesser.

Gesser, who led Washington State to the Rose Bowl in 2003 and finished seventh in the 2002 Heisman voting, was hired by Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen to be the Cowboys quarterbacks coach earlier this year. "[I'm] Looking forward to seeing some of the guys that I came to know and care about," Gesser said to KHQ/SWX sports anchor/reporter Michelle Dapper. "Wish them the best, just not against us. Haha."

Gesser began his tenure at Idaho in 2011, hired as the running backs coach before assuming the role of offensive coordinator in 2012. He finished the season as the team's interim head coach after Rob Akey was relieved of his duties with four games to go.

"I appreciate everything that University did for me and I hold them in the highest regards," Gesser said. "But I am truly blessed and exteremly happy to be a Cowboy and look forward to having a great game against the ol squad."

Idaho and Wyoming square off at 1:00 p.m. PT on Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.
