YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima school district is joining forces with credit unions in the area to provide school supplies to students who need them.

Thursday, students, teachers and credit union representatives met at Ridgeview Elementary School to drop off school supplies for students who may not have everything they need for the school year.

The program is now in its 22nd year, and teachers say the efforts don't go unnoticed.

"We just really appreciate the community stepping up and helping out kids out, we have the best kids in the world, so we think Yakima school district is blessed to have this opportunity with the credit unions," said Ridgeview Elementary School Principal, K.C. Mitchell.

This year, 5,000 folders were filled with paper, pencils, rulers and notepads for kids who need them.

The supplies will be taken to all the elementary schools in the district and will be distributed to students who need them.
