PASCO, Wash.- Pasco Police are investigating what happened Saturday morning by the blue bridge as an apparent suicide. NBC Right Now spoke with a Pasco woman who says she was on a regular jog along the river trail when she spotted something she'll never forget.
"I noticed a rope hanging, kind of a red flag," said Yenia Alanis. "But I noticed it was right above the rocks."
Alanis told us she thought the rope was suspicious. She was going to put her headphones back on and keep jogging, but she had a gut feeling to stay.
"For some reason I just stopped and look over and I seen a shoe. I kind of stopped for a second and I went near again and I see a head."
Alanis says she found the body of an elderly white male wearing all black clothing along the walking trail that runs under the blue bridge. Police had a large perimeter of the scene blocked off around 9 a.m. and refused to make any statements.
"People were just walking by and I'm yelling there's a dead body, somebody help me! People just kept walking by."
Alanis said she called 911 to report what she found right away. She tells us she stayed on the scene with police to answer any questions she thought might help.
"I'm glad I was able to at least help the man, get the body picked up not just left there because at the end of the day he is a human being just like us. I'm still traumatized. I'm very emotional. It's something that I've never seen. I wont be walking there for a while."
The deceased was a 65-year-old man according to police. Pasco Police are currently reaching out to notify his family.
