Yakima Celebrates National Recovery Month

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. - This September marks the 24th year the country has celebrated National Recovery Month.

In Yakima, local groups held a Recovery Month Celebration. The eight annual celebration at Sarg Hubbard Park gathered those struggling with addiction to celebrate their sobriety.

"There's good recovery (in Yakima)," recovering addict Christopher Gilchrist said. "I enjoy the recovery here... I've made good positive connections."

"The program works," Sober House owner Steve Quradnik said.  "(Addicts) can have a life, a life that's positive. They don't have to tag anymore. They don't have to steal."

The event was funded by the Yakima County Veteran Support Services, local sobriety homes and 12-step programs.
