One Last Master Plan Workshop Tomorrow

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. --- The City of Yakima is holding one last master plan workshop tomorrow to hear public input on the proposed changes to downtown Yakima.

The master plan includes a comprehensive overhaul of the downtown area. The plan consists of turning parts of East Yakima Avenue into a boulevard, creating a Yakima Plaza where the Millennium Plaza is now and a new public market on Front Street. Yakima residents have mixed feelings on the proposed changes.

"I love anything they can do downtown to upgrade it," Davison William said. "To bring in business. To bring in tourists. I think it's a great idea."

"Well, it's nice. But no parking spaces?" Teresa Solis asked. "That's really going to bite."

The Yakima Plaza would be turned into open space and parking garages would be built where the lot is now. The public workshop starts tomorrow morning at 9:30 at the Yakima Convention Center.
