Benton County Jury Finds Scantling Guilty of First Degree Murder

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - A Benton County jury finds Grant Scantling guilty of first degree murder and burglary in the shooting death of his ex-fiancee's roommate.

Scantling was accused of breaking into Anne Krebs Kennewick home and killing Franklin Palmer in March.

The prosecution and the defense agreed Scantling is guilty of murder, but disagreed on what charge he should face. The prosecution argued that Scantling's actions support a premeditated murder. However, the defense argued the three shots that killed Palmer aren't enough to prove premeditation and Scantling should face charges of second degree murder instead.

With the first degree murder conviction, Scantling could spend the rest of his life behind bars. His sentencing date is set for Sept. 19th.
