State Board of Education Visits Local Schools

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The State Board of Education was in Yakima Thursday visiting several schools around the city.

Board members started with a tour of Adams Elementary School in Yakima, and finished at YV Tech.

Board members wanted to see how schools in the area are working, and what new programs have been added to schools to increase student learning.

The director of YV Tech said this is a great opportunity for the board to see what they have to offer.

"They are going to get a chance to see that we are a little bit different than most of the skills centers in the state, so they'll actually get a chance to see what our skill center can do," said YV Tech Director, Craig Dwight.

This is also a way for the board to touch base with the east side of the state that school officials say sometimes gets forgotten.

This all comes after the board unanimously approved a decision Wednesday to allow the Spokane School District to become the first district in the state to authorize charter schools.
