Medstar's Newest Helicopter Makes Several Stops in Tri-Cities
RICHLAND, Wash. - Medstar's newest medical transport helicopter made several stops around the Tri-Cities Thursday.
The brand new EC 135 helicopter touched down this afternoon at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland. The new chopper was designed specifically for emergency medical evacuations. It has all the latest patient safety and critical care enhancements as well as advanced GPS and an onboard radar.
"We're actually able to take patient family members as well. Right now, with the older models, we're very tight on how much weight we can take. And so often, we've had to decline family members accompanying their loved ones on the flight. But in the new model, we'll be able to take family members in certain circumstances," said MedStar Richland Base Chief Roger Casey.
The new helicopter is also more fuel efficient. Medstar now has five helicopters serving the eastern Washington and northeast Oregon region.
