US And Russia At Odds As Syria Talks Continue

Posted: Updated:

GENEVA (AP) - Secretary of State John Kerry says the U.S. and Russia are deeply committed to a negotiated end to Syria's civil war and are "working hard to find the common ground" to make it happen.

Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with the U.N.-Arab League envoy in Geneva today to discuss a new international conference aimed at creating transitional government for Syria.

But both Kerry and his Russian counterpart say restarting a peace process hinges on successful efforts to secure Syria's chemical weapons arsenal.

Kerry and Lavrov say they will meet again in New York toward the end of the month to try to fix a date for second conference.
