Judge Expects Ruling Friday on Sex Offenders Information
KENNEWICK, Wash. A Benton
County judge says he expects to rule Friday afternoon if a local attorney can begin
to form a class action lawsuit in an attempt to block the release of personal
information of hundreds of low-level sex offenders.
Superior Court Judge Bruce
Spanner has issued a preliminary injunction to keep the records private while
he considers the request by Richland attorney Greg Dow.
Under current public records
law, names and addresses are accessible of the more serious level 2 and 3 sex
offenders, but not level 1.
Donna Zink, a former mayor of Mesa, says she wants the information made
public just like it is for higher-level offenders. Zink obtained the level 1
records from Franklin County, but clerks in Benton County balked.
