Senate Hearing Set to Discuss Energy Independence Act in Richland

Posted: Updated:

NBC RIGHT NOW-  Washington state lawmakers will hold a public hearing in Richland to get feedback on the impacts of the Energy Independence Act.

I-937 was passed in 2006, requiring power companies to buy a certain percentage of renewable energy each year.

Locally, hydropower produces a good portion of our energy, but  I-937 does not recognize hydropower as renewable.

Making it hard for Benton PUD and Franklin PUD to keep customers power rates down.

The Senate Energy Committee will be Monday, September 16th at the Richland Library to hear from the community on this matter.
