What was the probable cause?
  The City of Yakima Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 800 block of S. 44th Ave. The fire started on the outside of the duplex and quickly went into the attic.

Fire crews forced entry into the residence and confirmed there was no one inside.

A second crew went to the roof and used a specialized nozzle to halt the growth of the fire. The fire was brought under control between 10 and 15 minutes.

There were no reported injuries.

The family of 5 was assisted by Red Cross.


The fire was man-caused and is still under investigation to determine if the fire was accidental or intentional.
What was the extent of the damage?
  The attic and roof sustained the most damage. The fire also damaged the living room of the home and burned several arborvitaes and a fence on the exterior of the residence.
